This tour is based around the favorite places of Habsburg aristocracy. With plenty of grand buildings, rich history and excellent food all throughout, and untouched nature in between, you will enjoy seven days of the textured details that made up the grand monarchy. It is a journey, much like the Habsburgs in the title, destined to be remembered for a long time after it’s finished.

The Habsburg Hedonism tour was spot on what we were looking for. Great hotels, wonderful views, excellent food, we really have no complaint.Medvin Hallman, Göteborg

DAY 1

At Ljubljana airport you will be welcomed by one of our English-speaking, friendly chauffeurs. He will drive you to lake Bled, an amazing alpine lake straight out of a fairy tale. Once you have checked in at your 4* hotel, and perhaps had a stroll by the lake that has attracted poets and thinkers over centuries, your driver will take you to Bled castle for an evening visit of the 11th century fortification. After that you will have a 3 course dinner* in the restaurant overlooking the lake. The views from the restaurant are nothing short of magical and are only paralleled by the exquisite food prepared by one of Slovenia’s top chefs.

DAY 2

Once you have had breakfast and checked out, your guide will pick you up at the reception to visit Vintgar gorge which has an easy walking path directly connected to the canyon walls. Further embracing the nature of the Gorenjska region, you will head to lake Bohinj wherein the wonderful scenery is embellished by steep mountain faces that cantilever out on its northern side, with snowy mountain peaks also dominating the background to the west and south. After you have had some free time for lunch, you will cross the Julian Alps on exciting roads with stunning views and get into Soca Valley, which was once the bloodiest front of WW1, but now gem of untouched nature with a landscape of soaring peaks and rivers of crystal clear emerald water. Once there, you will be served a 3 course dinner* at Hisa Franko in Kobarid, where you will also spend the night.

DAY 3

After a luxurious breakfast, at 9 am you will check out and our driver will first take you to the Tolmin gorge, a wonderfully turquoise walk at the spot where the Julian Alps give way to the Adriatic plains. From there we proceed to Skocjan Caves, a UNESCO world heritage site where you can indulge in the wonders of the karst terrain. In the afternoon you will reach Opatija, a former resort of Habsburg aristocracy that still retains most of the imperial charm. Once you have checked in at your 5* hotel, you will have some free time to explore the city on your own before your driver takes you for a fish-based dinner* at a nearby picturesque town, Volosko. After you have enjoyed your meal, you will be taken back to the hotel.

DAY 4

This is the day you discover the wonders of the Istrian peninsula. Your guide will first take you to Rovinj, the most Venice-like city besides Venice itself. Once there, you will have some free time to explore the town at your own leisure. At 1 pm you will reconnect with your guide and he will drive you to Motovun, a charming hilltop town in the Istrian hinterland which offers great views of wine country. After that you will enjoy a traditional home-cooked lunch made with only the freshest ingredients and wine tasting at Veralda, one of the most awarded wineries in the region. Luciano, the owner, will personally make sure you properly taste and feel every nuance of his top notch wines. Before returning to Opatija in the evening, your driver will take you to the city of Buzet, home of a very special type of traditional schnapps made of mistletoe that many locals regard as the best in the world.
